Option 1 - Graham Titley - The Cost of an ILL

In the Workshop on the Cost of an ILL we will attempt to identify those factors that contribute to the overall cost of an ILL. This will be an interactive workshop with contributions encouraged from the floor. In a time of financial constraints ILL is often an easy target for cuts or even pressured to operate on a cost recovery basis. The aim is to help delegates to appreciate all the factors that contribute to costs and so to be better prepared managerially.

Option 2 - Liz Hart and Graham Muncy - Music and Interlending

"Music libraries are underpinning an important element of our musical culture - but they don't seem to be resourced for it."

      • What are Performance Sets and why are they important for the cultural life of the community?
      • Why libraries need to borrow & loan sets.
      • How libraries can best locate and borrow sets - now and in the future.
These & other questions will be addressed by Liz Hart & Graham Muncy, representing the International Association of Music Libraries - UK & Ireland  Branch, the organisation coordinating & promoting library music provision.

"Every performance set loan can have huge cultural significance."

Option 3 - Stephanie Taylor - Technology and Interlending

1.00           Lunch

1.45           Speak to the Speakers - an opportunity to network with colleagues and speak to our speakers over coffee

                   Swiss National Library

The European Library, the European Digital Library, Europana, EDLproject, TELplus, EDLnet, EDL foundation…. What are they, how do they fit together and what do they mean for end-users? They are all parts of the jigsaw being put together to improve remote access to Europe’s cultural heritage, along with other national initiatives such as Gallica2 and international projects such as the Réseau francophone des bibliothèques nationales numériques. The talk will present the pieces of the puzzle and show how it is planned to bring them together to provide different strands of access to collections, complementary to individual library services. The level of access to documents and media not just bibliographic records will be assessed and the potential impact on interlending in the future considered.
